Look and read through manual pages. Type the following
man commands to reveal information about them.

If you're C is abit rusty:
man printf
man fprintf
man memcpy

For socket information:

man 2 socket
man 3 inet_aton
man 3 gethostbyname
man 2 connect
man 2 write
man 2 close

For more detailed socket information:

man 7 socket


The number in between "man" and "subject" is the 
different sections of the manual. 

Section 1 -- shell commands (not used)
Section 2 -- OS API calls
Section 3 -- library calls
Section 7 -- detailed information

i.e.
"man 2 socket" and "man 7 socket" are different.
